What happens at a home visit?
Home visits are tailored to the needs of your family and the special pet. Children, other pets and loved ones can be part of the process. It is important that you are able to spend the time you need in a calm safe environment.
Our Approach
When you call to discuss the needs of your family and pet, we will discuss what the process involves and allow you a chance to ask questions and discuss any aftercare or memorial keepsakes you would like organised.
Once an appointment is booked Dr Rachael or Dr Ed will come out to your home and meet your family and discuss what is involved. When you feel comfortable we will administer a sedative to help relax your pet and help them gently fall asleep. This injection is given under the skin just like a vaccination. You can cuddle, stroke or feed your pet special treats during this time.
Once your pet has fallen into a comfortable sleep we typically place a catheter with injection port in your pet’s leg. This allows us access to their vein to give the final injection. For most pets this injection is very fast acting. A stethoscope is used afterward to check that your pet has passed away.
For owners arranging a special place to bury their pet at home, we will make ink prints and Clay paw prints with your permission together with your family present.
If you would like your pet cremated we will give your family and other pets time to say goodbye before we carefully transport them and organise this for you. Your pets ink and clay prints will be made and brought back when we bring your pets ashes home to you.
